Insights Conference: Bridging the Data Divide
June 24, 2014 at the Hilton Richmond Hotel & Conference Center.

The second annual Insights Conference, "Bridging the Data Divide," will emphasize how the Virginia Longitudinal Data System (VLDS) is bridging the data divide among citizens, researchers, and policymakers by providing a single point of access for educational and workforce information. 

Speakers will include Aneesh Chopra, Virginia's former Secretary of Technology, who also was appointed by President Obama as the nation's first Chief Technology Officer, and Karen Jackson, the current Secretary of Technology for the Commonwealth.

The conference will offer an exciting agenda covering a wide variety of interesting topics, including Adult Ed-PluggedIn VA Research Project, Bridging the Data Divide, CCR Project Update, CTE Research Project, Data Needs Assessment Project, Dynamic Data Divisions, Early Childhood Advances, HB 886: Making Student Progression and Outcomes Data Part of the Advising Process, Long-term Outcomes of Graduate Wate Data, Peer Schools Project, The Power of VLDS, Rethink Education: an Entrepreneurial Perspective, Return on Investment in the Workforce, SIG Schools Project, Teacher Preparation in Virginia and Workforce Data Update

Registration is available until June 23 for $100. Day-of tickets will be offered on a space-available basis for $125.

Export University is a series of courses on exporting designed by the District Export Council, a volunteer non-profit organization associated with the U.S. Commercial Service. The objective is to help U.S. companies begin an export initiative and gain new skills and innovation in expanding their international sales

Member News:  CIT's Mach 37 hosts Cyber Showcase
Participants included Harrisonburg based business

 The MACH37 Cyber Accelerator and CIT GAP Funds hosted investors at the June 17th Cyber Showcase.  Invited guests included investors representing top-tier venture capital firms, leading edge technology companies and angel groups from the east coast.  Twelve companies presented, including six later stage companies and six from the MACH37 Spring Cohort.  The MACH37 Spring Cohort included innovations in several critical areas of security, including encapsulated expertise, zero-trust security models, Software Defined Networking (SDN) enabled solutions, and lightweight distributed systems.  One of the Spring Cohort companies involved was Harrisonburg based Axon Ghost Sentinel.

"These entrepreneurs have just completed an intensive 14 week program that is structured to accelerate them on the path to making their companies investment grade, and preparing them to win customers in the open market," commented Rick Gordon, Managing Partner of MACH37.

In 2013, a record-high $1.4 Billion were invested by venture capital firms in 239 cybersecurity companies according to research by CB Insights.  "The appetite for new ideas and investment opportunities in cybersecurity has never been greater," commented Pete Jobse, President and CEO of the Center for Innovative Technology (CIT) and MACH37 Executive Chairman.

Tom Lundquist is the Supervisor of Technology Services at Staunton City Public Schools. Key responsibilities of this position include designing and managing the network infrastructure, servers and directory databases. He manages the IT staff, implements division direction on technological advances, procures division technology products and controls the Federal E-Rate program.
