Expansion to Global Markets Workshop

April 25, 2013, 8:30-11:30am

Solutions Place in Waynesboro, VA

A workshop for area businesses interested in learning more about increasing their customer base by expanding from domestic to international trade. Those who attend will learn why, when, and how to consider making international sales part of their firm's business growth strategy, what resources are available to assist them with planning for and beginning global trade, and will have been shown the right first steps to launch an export initiative.

This "Expansion to Global Markets" workshop is the 3rd  in the "Growing Together: Pathways to Business Renewal & Expansion" series being offered by a collaboration of public and private organizations in the central Shenandoah Valley.  The series is designed to help strengthen the region's economic vitality by making it easier for existing area firms to pursue advanced strategic paths for growth.

This workshop will begin with presentations by international trade experts with broad experience from the Virginia Small Business Development Center (VSBDC) network, the International Trade division of the Virginia Economic Development Partnership (VEDP), and the U.S. Department of Commerce Export Assistance Center.  A second set of presentations will provide an overview of some of the more intricate aspects of trading internationally such as customs, ports, and other issues related to goods crossing country borders;international finance issues; and international logistics.

To conclude the event, owners of several local businesses trading internationally will share their experiences and tips for successful business expansion through exporting.  Time will also be available for Q & A.  Optional 1-on-1 afternoon meetings with individual workshop speakers will be available to attendees on a first-requested, first-scheduled basis.

Admission is free.  For more information visit www.ValleySBDC.org/growing-together.
