It's not often that Serco sheds a light on what they do at their Mum's-The-Word facility at Mt. Clinton Pike in Harrisonburg - however, they've agreed to let a limited number of SVTC members get a foot in the door in January to take a peek.

Approximately 7,300 patent applications for new inventions are submitted to the U.S. Patent and Trademark office every week, and 92% of these find their way to Harrisonburg to be processed and classified by Serco's highly educated and technical workforce. Join us for a Serco-sponsored SVTC members-only luncheon where you will be introduced to the "Wonderful World of Patents" and how these are treated right here in Harrisonburg.

Space is limited and only 35 can be accommodated. First come, first serve (advanced) registration.

A light lunch will be provided (thank you, Serco).

Online registration required - attendance confirmations will be sent via email a few days before event and include additional details.

In-processing begins at 11:30 am.

Job Posting:  Product Planner III, Lumos Networks

The incumbent will assist in the development and launch of new products and product enhancements, as well as ongoing support of existing products. The Product Planner III will provide planning, project management, and assist in product management functions required to maintain and grow revenue, market share, and profit margin.


The incumbent will provide product knowledge and expertise, help manage product ARPU and profitability, help manage product communications to the company, help negotiate pricing, and influence decisions that will drive product success in a highly competitive marketplace. The Product Planner III will interface with vendors, customers, and employees in the evaluation of new offerings, and in the support of existing offerings; and, will assist in identifying company impacts as well as assist in developing financial models to validate profitability. The Product Planner III also provides input for the development of revenue projections for new and existing service offerings in support of capital requirements for budget cycles. Excellent leadership, project management, and product management skills are a must, to allow infusion of new products into Lumos' portfolio and ensure the ongoing success of products throughout the product life cycle. In addition, the ability to influence others and strong presentation skills are required in this position.  


Must have knowledge and experience in multiple functions (e.g. Network, Product, Pricing, Regulatory, Sales Support, Billing, etc.) to support development, launch, and ongoing management of complex products.

Nester has been named Director of Public Affairs for Lumos Networks effective immediately.   He will be based in Charleston, West Virginia at the Lumos Networks regional office.
