Creating lots of technology? This is your crowd. Busily using technology? This is ALSO your crowd!
Mark the date and location: downtown Staunton at the Shenandoah Valley Brewing Company, Thurs., Feb. 5, 2015. Modeled after our popular Tech on the Square in Harrisonburg, we'll network, drink some local craft beers, and have some pizza as well. Members and non-members are welcome for this casual networking event.
Meet us at the Shenandoah Valley Brewing Company's taproom (17 Middlebrook Ave.) from 5:30 until 7:30 pm. That's in the historic wharf district between the Amtrak depot and the Augusta court house. You can enter SVBC either from Middlebrook Ave (street parking) or from Byers St. (Johnson Street surface parking lot).

On May 6, 2015 the SVTC will hold its 15th annual TECH NITE technology awards gala which is our premier event drawing between 250 and 275 technology users and creators from around the Valley. The award categories (there are 7 of them) cover a wide range, from focusing on high tech entrepreneurs and leaders to high tech businesses, as well as education (both K-12 and higher ed).
If you're considering getting your organization's information, and name and logo places in front of the Shenandoah Valley's tech users and creators, take a moment and read about the sponsorship details:

What is the Green Award about?
This award honors an area technology company, university, individual or organization, who is making an impact on our region through top-notch green practices. Being green is about more than just recycling paper waste and office equipment. It's exercising sound business stewardship, improving the way we use our power and computing assets, or better managing workforce productivity through telecommuting and videoconferencing. It's taking meaningful steps to ensure the health and safety of our employees and customers through energy efficient measures and support of renewable power generation. It's being a technology or business model innovator or providing a service that will drive large-scale adoption of leading green solutions.
- CONTRIBUTION DESCRIPTIONProvide a brief description of the nominee's outstanding technical and scientific contributions to advancing solutions in the fields of energy and environmental sustainability.

Presenter Biography: Clay received his MBA in May 2012 and holds degrees in Electronics and Biomedical Instrumentation. He is the Quality Assurance Manager at Corrugated Container Corporation. Clay has experience in manufacturing, quality control, and regulatory affairs. His background includes developing test programs for critical components on defense, aerospace, and medical products. He has served in most of the section roles, the American Society for Quality Board of Directors (2001-2007), International Chapter Chair, and ASQ Awards Board. Clay currently serves as a Deputy Regional Director in Region 11B. Clay is a Toastmaster, a former Toastmaster leader, and serves with Junior Achievement. SV Innovation Coalition's BizBlitz 2015

SVIC BizBlitz 2015: Aspiring entrepreneurs, designers, programmers, developers, marketers, and dreamers: BizBlitz is for you.
During this 54-hour high-energy weekend, attendees
bring their ideas and join efforts in a fast-paced workshop.
We will build prototypes, form teams & start companies. Mentors will provide valuable feedback. Cash prizes will be awarded!
We start with open-to-all pitches on Friday evening. Teams come together around the best ideas and spend the weekend in market research and product development. We end on Sunday evening in front of the judges, but everyone wins valuable feedback. (PDF of Biz Blitz Schedule)
BizBlitz is hosted by the Shenandoah Valley Innovation Coalition and local partners, and will again be facilitated by Nick Such, entrepreneur and engineer.

Innovate LIVE is a crowd-sourced, energy-packed, festive convergence of Local Innovators, Visionaries, and Entrepreneurs.
Over two days, social enterprises, community organizers, and artistic creators will converge in coffee shops, patios, and classrooms to explore the next wave of innovative ideas that are transforming our local communities. Sustainability, cooperation, the new economy, and arts and music will be the lenses through which we explore local opportunities for change and evolution. Together, we will develop and share the tools to build more vibrant communities, more creative lives, and more meaningful entrepreneurial opportunities.
The open-air format includes interactive workshops hosted by successful entrepreneurs, keynotes from leading change-makers, funding forums for new projects, and laid-back evenings for odd minds and young ideas to mingle.
Conceived as a small city interpretation of the wave of "Start-Up weekends" being held around the state and country, this weekend will connect entrepreneurs with the peers, tools, and resources needed to spark new innovation, while maintaining a creative and community-centered celebratory design that mirrors the character of the City of Staunton and our commitment to placed-based and small-city community development.

SBIR/STTR Lunch and Learns

These Lunch & Learns are for any Virginia based university researcher, postdoc, grad student or local small business interested in learning the benefits of the SBIR and STTR programs. SBIR grants (Small Business Innovation Research) and STTR grant program (Small Business Technology Transfer) provide $150K - $1.5M in early stage R&D funding for high risk, new technology development. 11 participating federal agencies use this program to fund early stage technology development that will help them meet their missions. Over $2.3 Billion is available each year in this program.
Each session will discuss the purpose of the programs, basic qualifications, participating agencies, funding amounts, and how to start to plan your approach to writing a winning proposal. We'll also provide a brief discussion on how university PosDocs and Graduate students can participate in these programs. Lunch will be provided. Details on how CIT supports Virginia based applicants will also be discussed.
