The Virginia Economic Development Partnership (VEDP) is seeking an export marketing professional for the International Trade office serving the Shenandoah Valley region of Virginia.  Responsibilities include increasing sales for Virginia companies by providing international marketing assistance, recruiting companies into the Division's various export promotion programs and leading trade missions. 


This position requires considerable knowledge of export marketing. The Trade Manager will have a proven track record in sales and marketing.  The successful applicant will be a self-starter in the generation of new clients for the VEDP, market the programs of the Trade Division to meet numeric performance measures, effectively manage multiple projects, and communicate effectively with the public.  Extensive regional and occasional international travel required. A graduate degree in international marketing or related field preferred.   A valid driver's license and ability to obtain a passport are required. Salary Minimum: $64,300/annually.

NEWPORT NEWS, VA (6/9/15) - PBMares, a leading accounting and business consulting firm focused on broad range of accounting business services, announced today that Susan Steele-Ward, CPA, a Manager at the firm, has joined the Intacct Accountants Program Advisory Council (IAPAC).  The council is comprised of executives from Intacct,, and Intacct partner firms.


The IAPAC is designed to facilitate discussion of key issues of mutual interest and help develop ideas that will improve the Intacct Accountants Program, jointly managed by, and increase the success of all stakeholders.  The council, which includes partners of different sizes and types, will advise on a variety of areas, including product and partner program related items. 


"The Intacct Accountants Program Advisory Council provides an important communication link between Intacct,, and our accounting partner community," said Kevin Cumley, director of the Intacct Accountants Program.  "We are pleased to have Susan Steele-Ward join the council and we look forward to her contributions in the areas of Intacct product plans, competitive landscape, and various partner program components - all intended to drive increased partner success."


Steele-Ward's areas of expertise in tax, consulting and accounting for start-up and growing businesses, along with her specializations in QuickBooks, Cloud accounting, and Intacct accounting software, make her an ideal Advisory Council member. 


The IAPAC will meet several times throughout the year.  Members will serve an initial two-year term, which may be extended or renewed. Participation is limited to owners, officers, or partner level executives, and only one person from a partner firm may participate.


"Collaboration and compatibility are key traits for success in the cloud era, and the IAPAC offers an excellent forum to fine-tune the Intacct Accountants Program," said Michael Cerami, vice president of business development and global alliances for, a subsidiary of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants.


Steele-Ward obtained a Bachelor of Science in Education from James Madison University (JMU) in Harrisonburg, Virginia.  She subsequently completed her accounting concentration degree in 1996, also from JMU.  She is licensed as a Certified Public Accountant in Virginia.

TalentWise to Hold Grand Opening in Frederick County, VA

CIT and MACH37™ Cyber Accelerator Hold Demo Day for Cyber Startups

Cybersecurity startup CEOs presented to investors, industry leaders 


June 3, 2015 (HERNDON, Va.) - At its fourth Demo Day on June 2, the Center for Innovative Technology and the MACH37™ Cyber Accelerator hosted over 120 investors to hear pitches from entrepreneurs of cybersecurity startups. Guests included accredited investors representing top-tier venture capital firms, leading edge technology companies and angel groups from the Washington, D.C. region and east coast.

Governor McAuliffe Announces Research Commercialization Awards


~ Investments target research and commercialization activities to spur innovation ~


RICHMONDGovernor Terry McAuliffe announced today 38 Commonwealth Research Commercialization Fund (CRCF) awards totaling more than $2.8 million to fund targeted areas of promising research and commercialization, including advanced manufacturing, cybersecurity, and energy and life sciences.


Governor McAuliffe said"The CRCF program advances research with potential for economic growth in Virginia. In order to compete with other states and globally, we must focus on early stage economic development. These investments are planting seeds that are helping us grow the new Virginia economy."  


Secretary of Technology Karen Jackson added"CRCF provides seed funding necessary to advance cutting-edge research and promote the commercialization of exciting new technologies." 


Managed by the Center for Innovative Technology (CIT), the CRCF is aligned with and guided by the Commonwealth Research and Technology (R&T) Strategic Roadmap.  During this round, applications were invited under six programs -- Commercialization, Eminent Researcher Recruitment, Facilities Enhancement, Matching Funds, Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR) Matching Funds and Small Business Technology Transfer (STTR) Matching Funds -- to support the private sector, academia and nonprofit research institutes across the state.

MACH37 Cyber Accelerator Accepting Applications for Fall 2015 Session

Fall 15 Cohort to Begin on September 8th



May 12, 2015 (HERNDON, Va.) - The MACH37™ Cyber Accelerator has officially announced it will begin accepting applications from information security startups and security entrepreneurs for its Fall 2015 (F15) Cohort beginning September 8th. The MACH37™ program consists of an intense 90-day program in which the selected startups are coached in all aspects of creating a sustainable and successful business. 


MACH37™ encourages entrepreneurs with emerging products and companies to apply for the F15 Cohort. The program is open to startups from any geography whose founders are ready to immerse themselves in a mentorship program designed to produce the next generation of leading security product companies.


Upon acceptance into the program, participants receive a $50,000 investment to develop and launch their ideas into the market.  Following completion of the program and a successful Demo Day presentation, the CIT GAP Fund will match up to $100,000 of outside investment for companies located in Virginia.  MACH37 companies will benefit from ongoing access to the MACH37 Stars Mentor Network and will receive support throughout the life of their enterprise.


Since MACH37™ was launched in 2013, the accelerator has accepted four classes of startups to participate in the program. The Spring 2015 Cohort is currently in session and will culminate with a Demo Day on June 2nd, 2015. Following the graduation of the S15 class, MACH37™ will have helped create 22 new cybersecurity companies.
