SVTC Luncheon: Bring Your IT Questions for a Panel Discussion

The SVTC panel discussion will bring together top talent in the IT arena so that our group of experts can share each other's experiences and answer pertinent questions from the Valley's tech community concerning IT-type questions. Whether it is a true 'bits and bytes' question or possible visionary questions, send them our way.


This event offers you the ability to submit questions early to prepare the panel (see link below), or you may wait until the day of the event and put the panel to the "test" in fielding  your questions live. We hope to bring forth questions that all members may have or to introduce a new concept, disseminate facts, show different points of view, get people thinking in a new direction, or any one of a hundred other possibilities.


Panel members:


Joey Groah, DIGICO Shoot | Post | Design: Joey has been writing, directing, and producing video for 13 years for local, regional, national, and international clients in advertising, marketing, corporate communications, and broadcast design and branding.


Mike Lam, Premier Technical Services:  J. Michael Lam has over 35 years' experience in Information Technology Knowledge and Data Center Management. He retired from James Madison University in 2007 with over 33 years of Data Center Management, Design, and Leadership of the 13 full time engineers within his team. Mike is currently Vice President for Premier Technical Services and he oversees the Federal contracts and Engineering divisions. Mike was also awarded two patents on Data Center Multi-Purpose Design and Heat Transfer.


Ron Perry, grep Innovation: Ron's areas of expertise include:  Technology strategy, information security and forensics, web design and development, network architecture, server administration, telecommunications, manufacturing engineering, research and development, photography and creative services, entrepreneurship.


Kurt Plowman, City of Staunton IT Department:   Kurt has been a CTO for fourteen years, overseeing networks, servers, desktops, telephones, applications and the data center for the City of Staunton.    Kurt's focus is networking, security, and digital forensics.

NOVA EDU Startup Weekend, June 1-3, 2012: Schedule Announced

Center for Innovative Technology to Sponsor NOVA EDU Startup Weekend ... Weekend event participants collaborate to create business plans focusing on the advancement of education

[Herndon, VA May 31, 2012] --  The Center for Innovative Technology (CIT) announced today the schedule for the upcoming NOVA EDU Startup Weekend event to be held June 1-3.


NOVA EDU Startup Weekend is the kick-off event for the Apps4VA competition launched by CIT and the Virginia Department of Education (VDOE). It will bring together teachers, developers, designers, entrepreneurs and others to generate ideas, applications, and even start a business to improve the use of K-12 education data. It is the first Startup Weekend to focus exclusively on K-12 education data.

Startup Weekends are 54-hour events launched by the Kauffman Foundation to provide superior experiential education for technical and non-technical entrepreneurs. Over 45,000 entrepreneurs and 5,000 teams have participated in 468 Startup Weekends, with 190 more planned.


The Apps4VA program stems from a federal grant to create a Virginia Longitudinal Data System (VLDS) to provide educators and policymakers aggregated data on Virginia public school students' progress toward college and career readiness. It will encourage the development of new and innovative apps to improve education using VLDS data.


The registration fee for educators is $85. For developers, designers and non-technical attendees the fee is $99.

The goal of the symposium is to inform stakeholders and other interested parties about the progress that wind power made in the region over the past few years and opportunities for the future.  The Symposium will address timely issues pertaining to wind power development in Virginia and throughout the Mid-Atlantic Region, through a series of workshops and panel discussions. 


This year the Symposium will be held June 20-22, 2012 on the East Campus of James Madison University.  We will be featuring:

  • Tours of our new Small Wind Training and Testing Facility
  • More exhibitors
  • A full 1.5 days of concurrent tracks and panel discussions
  • More time for Q&A in each panel discussion
  • A wind farm tour on the 22nd (limited availability) (TBD)

Mr. Jolly is an independent CFO and Financial Consultant performing interim and part-time CFO services as well as financial project design and implementation. He is based near Charlottesville, Virginia and possesses over thirty years of diverse business and financial management experience.
